Mounties Battle Hard But Fall Short Against Undefeated UNBSJ
November 9, 2025 – Sackville, NB
In a spirited showdown at McCormack Gymnasium, the Mount Allison Mounties Men's Basketball team came close to handing UNB Saint John their first loss of the season but ultimately fell 77–59 in a game that was tighter than the final score suggests.
The Mounties came out strong, trailing by just one point after the first quarter (23–22), showing grit and energy against the undefeated Seawolves. However, a tough second quarter saw Mount Allison outscored 21–12, creating a gap that proved difficult to close in the second half.
Jonas Munroe led the Mounties with a powerful performance, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, including 7 offensive boards. His effort in the paint kept Mount Allison competitive throughout. Lance Momborquette added 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Simba Bowora contributed 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Despite their hustle, the Mounties struggled from the field, shooting just 26.6% overall and 15.4% from three-point range. In contrast, UNBSJ shot 42.5% and hit 10 three-pointers, which proved to be a key difference-maker.
Mount Allison showed resilience in the fourth quarter, but UNBSJ's depth and shooting kept them ahead. The Mounties did excel at the free-throw line, converting 80.8% of their attempts, and out-rebounded the Seawolves 47 to 41.
This game marks a learning opportunity for the Mounties, who demonstrated they can compete with top-tier teams. With continued development and focus, they'll be looking to bounce back and build on the positives from this matchup.
